Week 8 (Animatic)

This week I began working on my animatic. For this I used my storyboards as outline bases to then draw over in Photoshop. This allowed me to work with layers which can then be placed in Premier while retaining these layers. This makes animating the sequence much easier.

I also created a test animatic using the initial storyboards to figure out the timing of different images and play around with sound effects.

Task 8 - Squash and Stretch (Ball Bounce)

Here I have created two short animations of a ball bounce to help me better understand the principle of squash and stretch. The first animation is of a ball bouncing straight up and down to show the basics of squash and stretch.

What went well:
  • Clear example of squash and stretch
  • Sounds matches the movement
What to improve:
  • Ball bounces a little slow
  • Doesn't bounce straight up and down, there is some side movements
How to combat this:
  • Plan the frames and movement more

The second animation shows a ball bouncing across the screen to practice squash and stretch with side ways movement so the ball interacts with the environment more.

What went well:
  • Clear example of squash and stretch
  • Speed of the ball is better then first animation
What to improve:
  • Ball sizing could be more consistent
  • Environment could have been more complex
How to combat this:
  • Plan more effective way to keep size consistent
  • Plan out the environment more

Task 5 - Arcs (Pendulum)

This task asked us to create two animations to help us understand the principle of arcs by using pendulum based motion. This part of the task has helped me better understand the pendulum motion.

What went well:
  • Arc motion is clear
What to improve:
  • Moves too quickly
  • Should have hung for longer at the top
How to combat this:
  • Plan motion out more

This second animation uses pendulum based motion to show a cat swinging in the air. I feel that this animation turned out better then the first as I had more practice in this attempt and I knew what I had to improve on from the previous animation.

What went well:
  • Speed is better then first animation
  • Motion and timing work better
What to improve:
  • Could have been on a larger scale, appears very small
How to combat this:
  • Plan the scaling out better
