Task 5 - Arcs (Pendulum)

This task asked us to create two animations to help us understand the principle of arcs by using pendulum based motion. This part of the task has helped me better understand the pendulum motion.

What went well:
  • Arc motion is clear
What to improve:
  • Moves too quickly
  • Should have hung for longer at the top
How to combat this:
  • Plan motion out more

This second animation uses pendulum based motion to show a cat swinging in the air. I feel that this animation turned out better then the first as I had more practice in this attempt and I knew what I had to improve on from the previous animation.

What went well:
  • Speed is better then first animation
  • Motion and timing work better
What to improve:
  • Could have been on a larger scale, appears very small
How to combat this:
  • Plan the scaling out better

Task 4 - Easing (Acceleration & Deceleration)

Here I have created a stop motion paper cut out animation of a football rolling down a hill to demonstrate the use of easing (acceleration and deceleration). The ball rolling down the hills shows examples of acceleration while the ball climbing and settling in the middle shows deceleration. This task has helped me better understand the principle of easing.

What went well:
  • Ball rocking and settling in middle worked well
  • Shows clear example of acceleration and deceleration
What to improve:
  • Initial roll down hill could have been smoother and faster
How to combat this:
  • Taken less images in selected areas

Task 3 - Appeal (Character Design)

For this task I selected the archetype 'Hero' and created my character 'Runa' based on the brief. I decided that my hero character would be a robot girl with a humanoid structure to fit with her background story. This task has helped me better understand the principle of appeal as well as learning to draw character sheets.

What went well:
  • Dynamic poses fit well
  • Colour scheme help symbolise a heroic character
What to improve:
  • Struggled with turnaround proportions
How to combat this:
  • Work on improving skills in drawing turnarounds

Task 2 - Straight Ahead & Pose to Pose (Plasticine and Paper Cut Out)

This is my plasticine morph as the first part of my task 2 (straight ahead & pose to pose) which uses the straight ahead principle of animation. This part of task has helped me understand claymation through plasticine as well as stop motion as a method of animation.

What went well:
  • Movement of ducks and balls are smooth
  • Audio works well with animation
What to improve:
  • Ending is rather abrupt
  • some areas could have flown better
How to combat this:
  • Taken more images
  • Lengthen the animation to make it flow more naturally

I also created a paper cut out animation using the pose to pose principle which allows me to plan out my sequence more than the straight ahead. This part of the task has helped me learn to use paper cut in my animations through stop motion.

What went well:
  • Morph is smooth and clear
  • Use of paper cut went well
What to improve:
  • Rather short
  • Character at the beginning appears a little jumpy
How to combat this:
  • Take more images
  • Plan sequences more

Task 1 - Timing (Pixilation)

I decided to create a video game style pixilation sing the theme of fight. The video shows a fight between two people taking place before the person playing the game pauses and turns of the console, causing the characters to disappear. I feel that this task has helped improve my understanding of timing and pixilation.

What went well:
  • Slapping scene - clear and fluid while still being comedic
  • Shows a clear example of pixilation and timing
What could be improved:
  • Some parts appear less fluid and move too quickly
How to combat this:
  • Take more images so that scenes appear more fluid and less jumpy
